A Vivid Collision of Art, Film and Fashion

On November 1 2025, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) once again transformed its iconic “Urban Light” installation into one of Hollywood’s most anticipated red-carpet nights: the 14th annual LACMA Art + Film Gala. The event, presented by Gucci, convened luminaries from the worlds of film, art, fashion and entertainment in support of the museum’s interdisciplinary programming.

This year, LACMA honoured two major figures: visual artist Mary Corse, whose six-decade exploration of light and perception has influenced the contemporary art world, and filmmaker Ryan Coogler, whose work (including Black Panther and Sinners) has reshaped modern genre cinema.

The Gala continues to serve as a fundraising initiative for the museum’s film initiatives, exhibitions, acquisitions and educational programmes.

The Style Story of the Evening

With Gucci as the presenting partner, the red carpet became a rich tableau of maximalist luxury, archival references and daring silhouettes. According to Grazia, the evening leaned into “liquid metallic gowns, velvety rich jewel tones, sculptural silhouettes” and a continued reign of sheer, skin-baring glamour.  Vogue adds that the LACMA Gala, unlike more traditional awards nights, affords its guests the freedom to take creative risks.

Some standout moments:

  • Demi Moore arrived in a custom Gucci halter gown of sheer mesh embroidered with beaded and crystal-studded floral motifs in rich jewel tones. The sheer “naked dress” trend is given a new glamour under Moore’s command.

  • Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber made an elegant mother-daughter statement: Crawford in a gold off-shoulder gown embroidered with tassels; Gerber in a fire-engine red sequined gown. Together they channelled old-Hollywood glamour.

  • Additional notable attendees included stars such as Elle Fanning, Doja Cat, Tessa Thompson, Angela Bassett and models-turned-muses wearing a sea of Gucci looks.

What the evening revealed is a synergy between high fashion and cultural philanthropy the red carpet not just as spectacle, but as commentary: of how art, identity and fashion converge. The presence of female icons like Moore and Crawford underscores a celebration of enduring glamour and trans-generational relevance.

Why It Matters

The LACMA Gala operates at the intersection of cultural currents: museum patronage, celebrity style, brand power and cinematic narrative.

  • Cultural impact: By honouring Mary Corse and Ryan Coogler, LACMA is signalling that film and visual art share a creative ecosystem.

  • Brand synergy: Gucci’s deep involvement aligns the label with arts patronage, cementing its role beyond fashion.

  • Fashion as expression: On this carpet, garments speak whether through transparency, sequins, tailoring or bold colour. The style choices mirror cultural shifts: ageing gracefully (Moore), legacy and lineage (Crawford-Gerber), and playful boldness (Doja Cat et al.).

  • Philanthropic resonance: While glitz attracts, the mission behind the Gala is to fund LACMA’s film programmes, educational outreach and exhibitions. The style moment and the mission are inseparable.

The Takeaways

  • Expect sheer and embroidered gowns to continue dominating red carpets through 2026, as evidenced by Moore’s look.

  • The mother-daughter red-carpet duo is emerging as a trend, signalling both fashion continuity and family legacy (Crawford & Gerber).

  • Fashion institutions and museums will increasingly use high-profile events to merge art, commerce and culture.

  • Finally, as Vogue Arabia points out, menswear on this carpet also took risks: oversized suiting, relaxed tailoring and bold boot choices among male attendees.

The 2025 LACMA Art + Film Gala was more than a spectacle it was a statement: of style as cultural dialogue, of marque brands embracing the world of art and film, and of celebrities wielding red-carpet moments like canvases. As the costuming fades from flashbulbs, the legacy remains: fashion intertwined with mission, glamour tied to purpose.
