Each winter, at the very heart of the Engadin, the frozen Lake St. Moritz becomes one of the most exclusive sporting stages in the world. For its 41st edition, the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz once again confirms its singular position as the world’s only high-goal polo tournament played on snow, blending elite sport, alpine glamour and the precision for which Switzerland is renowned.

The birthplace of snow polo is more than a tournament it is a ritual. A bucket-list event for players and spectators alike, it attracts the sport’s leading professionals alongside 280 representatives of international media and high society, while more than 25,000 spectators gather on the ice. Free public access to the Polo Village on Day 1 welcomes a wider audience, while VIP hospitality and the iconic Gala Dinner sold out months in advance remain among the most coveted winter invitations.

Yes, there is glitz. Yes, there is glamour. But at its core, the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz is defined by sporting excellence. Under the visionary leadership of founder and five-time Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz champion Reto Gaudenzi, world-class athletes and exceptional ponies deliver polo of the highest calibre, reinforcing the event’s status as one of the most prestigious fixtures on the international polo calendar.

Opening day on pristine ice

The tournament opened on a flawless 55cm ice base, providing ideal playing conditions for six elite teams. Three matches marked the opening day, with the top four teams advancing directly to the Semi-Finals.

Flexjet secured a decisive 7–5½ victory over Mackage, while St. Moritz Top of the World edged Azerbaijan Land of Fire 4–3½ in a tightly contested encounter. Tournament favourites Standing Rock, fresh from their recent victory in Kitzbühel, confirmed their form with a controlled 6–4 win against newcomers Investec, who made their Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz debut this year.

What’s next

Action resumes with The President’s Cup and the two Semi-Finals, culminating in another day of high-intensity polo played against one of the most spectacular winter backdrops in the world.
