Extravagant and innovative silhouettes took center stage, featuring voluminous shapes, exaggerated proportions, and dramatic drapery. Designers experimented with unconventional fabrics and materials, such as ethereal organza, sculptural leather, and shimmering metallics, resulting in awe-inspiring ensembles that merged art with fashion. Renowned designers challenged traditional notions of fashion, showcasing garments that blurred the lines between art and apparel. Nature-inspired Embellishments Nature served as a major muse for designers at this Couture Week, as they drew inspiration from the world's flora and fauna. Delicate floral motifs at Chanel, intricately embroidered feathers at Valentino, and birds and fish motifs that adorned exquisite gowns and separates at Thom Browne. Designers skillfully incorporated these organic elements into their creations, transforming the runway into a whimsical garden. Nature-inspired embellishments added a touch of romance and ethereal beauty to the collections, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail synonymous with couture. From the use of recycled materials to the promotion of ethical labor practices, these designers demonstrated a commitment to responsible fashion without compromising on style or quality. This emphasis on sustainability highlighted the evolving nature of haute couture and its ability to adapt to changing societal values. The Power of Color Intense and pastel shades emerged as a dominant color palette. Designers explored a myriad of hues, including powder blue at Tony Ward, turquoise at Fendi, cobalt blue at Valentino and Schiaparelli, blush pink at Balenciaga, Chanel and Elie Saab, forest green at Valentino, and red, the dominant color of this haute couture season, most notably at Armani and Valentino, infusing their collections with a sense of serenity and femininity. The garments, ranging from tailored suits to flowing evening gowns, evoked a sense of effortless sophistication. Subtle monochromatic looks and delicate ombré effects further elevated the ethereal charm of these intense hues. Architectural Tailoring Clean lines and structured silhouettes made a bold statement on the couture runways, reflecting a resurgence of architectural tailoring. Designers showcased sharp, angular cuts, precise draping, and impeccably tailored suits that emphasized the female form with exquisite precision. Virginie Viard, the creative director of Chanel , showcased sophistication and simplicity, permanence, and beauty in her haute couture collection with a woke up like this messy hair and no makeup look. The narrow coats, red tweed Principal boy jacket, the knee-length suits and slightly Mod trouser suits of the day were set somewhere between the 60’s and the 80’s. Meanwhile the evening wear showcased beautiful lightweight chiffon dresses with bows as a standout detail. Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior collection exudes femininity and strength of Greek and Roman goddesses. The minimalism and classicism walked hand in hand in her collection of sculpted capes, dresses with vertical pleats, the clean, long lines of architectural tunics, delicate vestal-virgin shifts, nymph-like dresses, gilded lace, lattice work embroideries and tiny edgings of pearl beads. Chiuri emphasized the power of simplicity, presenting pared-down designs with clean lines and monochromatic palettes, which stood out against the ornate backdrop of couture. Pierpaolo Piccioli's Valentino collection captivated the audience with its inventive paradox. Piccioli presented draping, one of the most challenging couture constructions, that gave the illusion of weightlessness to the whole collection which showcased heavy chandelier earrings and demure pointy flats with oversized bows. The color palette was a mix of pinks, reds, blues, and greens with a touch of gold. Iris Van Herpen , famous for her avant-garde designs, continued to push the boundaries of fashion at Couture Fashion Week. Her collection showcased 3D-printed garments that seamlessly blended technology and artistry. Van Herpen employed innovative techniques such as laser cutting, heat bonding, and hand-sculpting to create intricate and otherworldly textures. The collection played with transparency, revealing glimpses of the human form beneath sculptural layers, and explored the interplay of light and shadow, creating an ethereal and mesmerizing visual experience. Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga , returned to Paris Couture Fashion Week with a highly anticipated collection. His imaginative and exuberant creations brought a sense of youthful energy to the couture stage, earning him recognition as a promising talent to watch. Although Jean Paul Gaultier signed his last show in 2020, the label continues to walk the catwalks of Haute Couture week, collaborating with talented designers. This year Julien Dossena from Paco Rabanne had the privilege to create a collection on behalf of a designer known as L’Enfant terrible of fashion. Dossena paid homage to the designer’s work in the past with all the famous Gaultier elements, from Breton stripes to conical breasts, nudity, and sensuous draping. The fashion world is embracing shifts in beauty standards, promoting gender-neutral fashion, and ensuring cultural representation on the runways. Influential voices are shaping the conversation, celebrating individuality and diversity. Trends in 2024 Statement Shoulders If we think about the standout trend for the upcoming spring of 2024, we can define it as a quarterback silhouette, with the primary focus on the torso. Sculptural shoulder pads are the predominant choice, outlining a frequently triangular figure reminiscent of 1980s fashion. This style is clearly evident in collections like Max Mara and Prada's tailoring, which features long-sleeved jackets paired with high-waisted shorts and a belt. In contrast, we also see a trend towards oversized blazers with equally loose patterns, paired with pleated skirts, as observed in Lapointe, shorts, as in Jil Sander, or even worn alone, in line with the offerings from Vuitton or Area. Utility-style makes an appearance in Khaite's collection with trench coats reminiscent of those worn during World War II. For a relaxed and romantic touch, we can't overlook the creations of Galliano at the helm of Margiela, featuring black and white looks. Go Micro The upcoming season encourages us to show plenty of skin, reminiscent of the "no-pants" phenomenon from last fall, which solidifies in the spring-summer of 2024. On this occasion, we see the emergence of complete sets of knitted shorts, an innovative reinterpretation of the classic twin-set. This new perspective departs from older versions seen in other collections, adding a distinctive touch to all our lower garments. Shorts evolve into hot pants, creating an interesting contrast with warmer pieces, such as Gucci's sweatshirts or Max Mara's knitted sweaters. At the same time, miniskirts transform into micro-skirts, adding a new dimension to preppy styles, courtesy of Miu Miu. This season encourages us to be bold and express our individuality through fashion. It's exciting to see how fashion evolves and adapts to new perspectives! Socks? We have been saying it for months: the accessory that is likely to stand out in the coming months is one of the simplest items in our wardrobe. Socks are no longer just a garment to keep our feet warm; they have become a true object of desire. Beyond the classic white sock with loafers, the trends for spring-summer 2024 suggest wearing taller socks that can be paired with a wide variety of shoes. While Givenchy and Jil Sander propose creating chromatic combinations between heelsand socks in shades like red, white, or blue, MSGM opts for sandals in vibrant colors contrasting with ribbed gray mélange stockings. You can also add a fun touch to your look with patterned socks, as suggested by Etro or Dries Van Noten. This season, socks become a creative way to express your personal style and add a fun element to your outfits. It's exciting to see how modest details can make a difference in fashion! Furthermore, accessories are making a bold statement in 2024. Handbags that leave an impression are versatile and elegant, footwear is undergoing a reinvention, and glamorous head ornaments are making a triumphant comeback to complete fashion ensembles. The Trending Color: Blue Despite the impending arrival of spring-summer 2024, which is characterized by a more subdued color palette, fashion trends also offer the opportunity to enjoy chromatic licenses that place blue in the spotlight. What started in Copenhagen as a popular shade has solidified in other fashion capitals. Baby blue, in particular, emerges as a prominent color for the upcoming months, appearing in a wide variety of garments. On one hand, we have enticing patent leather coats, as presented by Proenza Schouler. We also find blue-toned pantsuits in collections by Versace and Staud. Rodarte and Fashion East choose to feature it in head-to-toe dresses, while Palomo Spain plays with this hue through printed transparencies. In some fashion houses, this shade of blue tends to take on more greenish undertones, as we can see in Fendi and Jason Wu. This season, baby blue emerges as a fresh and versatile choice for a wide range of garments, allowing for creative and diverse expressions of fashion. Shall We Conclude? In conclusion, 2024 promises to be an exciting year for fashion enthusiasts. The PFW trends discussed in this article provide a glimpse of what to expect, from sustainability and inclusivity to digital transformation and bold aesthetics. Fashion is a constantly evolving world, and staying informed about these trends will keep you at the forefront of the dynamic changes in the industry.

- A CHALET FOR ALL PURPOSES: skiing, investing and saving on taxes
The financial and fiscal aspects of owning a second home in switzerland The allure of owning a chalet was the topic of a recent article in this magazine, thus the time has come to delve into the financial and fiscal implications for Swiss residents. Let’s begin with the bad news. The savings held in second and third pillar accounts, which are a popular and tax-friendly way to finance one’s main residence in Switzerland, cannot be used for second homes. This is particularly inconvenient given that the down payments required by mortgage providers for a second home are typically even higher than those needed for a first residence. As a consequence, prospective chalet buyers typically need to stump up 30% of the purchase price in cash, without accounting for transaction costs such as notary fees, which vary widely from one canton to another. With this anticlimax out of the way, it’s worth pointing out that once a chalet has been purchased, it can turn in handy not just for your weekends and holidays, but for fiscal purposes, too. First of all, if you have taken out a mortgage on your chalet, you have a debt that you can offset against your wealth, thereby reducing or eliminating the Swiss wealth tax, similarly to what happens with mortgages on a first residence. Secondly, mortgage interest payments can be deducted from income tax, together with most maintenance costs. Given that in Switzerland no fewer than 26 Cantons manage to cram themselves into what is a fairly small country, be aware that your chalet is likely to be based in a different Canton than your fiscal domicile, even if it’s nearby. Therefore, you will either have to submit a tax return in two Cantons, or hand in a copy of the tax return of your main place of residence to the Canton of your second home. Thus, when you rent your chalet out, the rental income will be taxed based on the rates of the local Canton. If you live in one of the larger cities, these tax rates will often be lower than those of your primary income. What is never tax-deductible, regardless of the Canton, is the service charge applied by the management company of apartment buildings. This cost is often unexpectedly high and is the least transparent of all fees related to home ownership. Basic cleaning costs of common parts such as hallways, the trimming of hedges and plumbing fees are rather uncontroversial, but somehow service charges have the funny habit of appearing to be excessively inflated with regards to what you get out of them. One “good” reason for service charges to be high is the inclusion of a renovation fund to put money aside for future large-scale maintenance work such as roof repairs. However, if you buy into a newly-built place, it is rather unfair to have to pay from day one for repairs from day oe that are over 20 years off, especially since you may not even own that place anymore by then. In that case, you would be subsidising future owners who will be the ones to benefit from a new roof that you paid for. Some management companies have caught up to this, waiving renovation fund charges for the first ten years, while others haven’t. Thus, taking a good look into what is and isn’t included in the service charge and valuing this in relation to the age of the building is an easily overlooked but highly important aspect to take into account before buying an apartment in a chalet. Even more influential in setting the price of your service charge is the presence or absence of a pool. It is easy to underestimate how expensive it is to maintain a shared pool. In the case of a pool in a second residence, it is particularly important to run a quick cost-benefit analysis, comparing how often you are likely to use it with the annual cost of servicing it. How often you are likely to use it will in turn depend in no small way on how large it is in relation to how many flats it is shared with. Keep in mind that in the winter months, usage will be peaking when people come back from the slopes in the late afternoon and early evening, and that children tend to be less bothered by crowded pools than adults. Lastly, bear in mind that not all mountain villages are created equal: the choice of where your chalet is located will have a substantial effect on how well it holds its value over time. Indeed, it is obvious that some mountain resorts in Switzerland are doing much better at preserving property values over the years than others. As a rule of thumb, those villages that have had the vision to reinvent themselves as an all-year-long holiday proposition over the last few decades are doing quite well, while others that have neglected to upgrade their infrastructure and failed to offer anything else to do than skiing and hiking tend to be in decline. It is not primarily a matter of size and altitude, although of course locations that are too small or too low are a bit challenged. It is mainly a matter of whether the local communal authority is prepared to invest in their village to keep up with the times. My personal formula for assessing whether it is worth investing in a chalet, apart from the considerations pertaining to the individual property discussed above, is to look at what the local council is doing: are they good at maintaining skilifts, do they promote some cultural life in the village, do they organise events all year round, do they attract worthy shops and restaurants? In short, do they match the effort they ask you to do when you buy a property by putting making an effort of their own in putting their house in order? If the answer is yes, your investment is likely to pay off. If they don’t, you have been warned: you don’t want to end up on the wrong side of history. - HOW TO READ THE COMPOSITION OF A SKIN PRODUCT?
Welcome to the blog! In this article, we are going to talk about how to read the composition of a skincare product. It's important to know what ingredients are in your skincare products so you can make informed decisions about what you are applying to your skin. Understanding your products composition can also help you identify ingredients that may be causing issues with your skin. How are ingredients listed in a product? Firstly, it's important to know that ingredients in skincare products are listed in descending order of concentration. This means that the ingredients listed first are the ones that are present in the highest amounts in the product. If an ingredient is listed at the end of the list, it's likely present in very small amounts and therefore has less of an effect on the skin. Common ingredients in skincare products Next, we will break down some common ingredients found in skincare products: Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) AHAs are exfoliating ingredients that help to remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture and tone.AHAs include glycolic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid. Salicylic acid Salicylic acid is another exfoliating ingredient commonly found in skincare products. It helps to remove excess oil and dead skin cells, which can help to prevent acne and keep pores clean. Retinoids Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A and are commonly used in anti-aging products. They help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and can also help to improve skin texture and tone. Antioxidants Antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E, help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and other harmful environmental factors. Moisturizers Moisturizers, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin, help to keep the skin hydrated and smooth. They can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Preservatives Preservatives are used to prevent skincare products from becoming contaminated with bacteria and fungi. However, some preservatives can be irritating to the skin and may cause issues for people with sensitive skin. Note that It's important to remember that skincare products can contain a variety of ingredients, and not all ingredients are suitable for everyone. When reading the ingredient list of a product, pay attention to any ingredients you may be allergic to or that may irritate your skin. It's also important to note that some ingredients may interact with each other and should not be used together. Consulting a dermatologist can be helpful if you have questions about which products are suitable for your skin and how to use them. Steps to step Look for the main ingredients To see the main ingredients of a beauty product, you should look for the ingredient list, which is usually on the product label or packaging. When reading the ingredient list, look for the ingredients listed at the top, as these are the ones with the highest concentration in the product. If there is any ingredient that you want to avoid or know causes irritation, look for that specific ingredient on the list and verify its location. If it appears at the end of the list, it means there is less of the ingredient in the product. Additionally, if there is any ingredient that you are not familiar with, you can look it up online to learn more about its benefits and potential side effects. You can also look for beauty products that contain specific ingredients that are beneficial for your skin type Latin or English On the labels of cosmetic products, chemical components are mentioned in English and direct plant derivatives are mentioned in Latin using the Linnaean system with binomial genus and species names. English includes parabens, PEGs, PPGs, silicones, and paraffins, which are controversial or toxic ingredients. For a cosmetic to be considered "natural," it must be composed of over 90% natural raw materials of plant origin and be free of hazardous substances. Expiration Date To find the expiration date of a beauty product, you should look for a label on the product packaging that indicates the expiration date or the expiry date. This label is usually printed on the bottom or back of the packaging. In some products, instead of an expiration date, the recommended period of time for use after the product has been opened is indicated. This is indicated by a symbol of an open container followed by a number and the letter "M" (for example, "12M" means the product should be used within 12 months after opening). It is important to pay attention to the expiration date or recommended use period and not use expired products, as they may not work properly or even be harmful to the skin. Preservatives and Antioxidants It is important to take into account preservatives and antioxidants on product labels. Preservatives prevent the growth of microorganisms and their use is essential to prevent alterations and ensure a longer shelf life. In summary, reading the composition of a skincare product is important for making informed decisions about what you apply to your skin. By paying attention to ingredients and understanding how they interact, you can find the products that work best for you and avoid those that may cause issues. Remember, your skin is unique and deserves to be treated with care and attention! If you want to learn more about skincare products and a good skincare routine, read this article. You will love it.
