Rising more than 3,000 metres above sea level, the highly anticipated TITLIS Tower will officially welcome its first visitors in early June, marking a defining moment in one of Switzerland’s most ambitious mountain tourism developments. Conceived by internationally acclaimed architects Herzog & de Meuron, the striking new landmark represents the first visible achievement of the transformative TITLIS project, through which Bergbahnen Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis AG (Titlis Cableways) is reimagining its infrastructure and strengthening Mount Titlis’ position as a leading year-round destination by 2029.

Blending seamlessly into the dramatic Alpine environment while making a bold architectural statement, the TITLIS Tower is a sophisticated transformation of the existing antenna structure. Designed by the renowned Basel-based architectural firm, the tower reflects a vision where contemporary architecture enhances rather than dominates the surrounding landscape. More than a new building, it symbolises the future of Titlis and introduces a destination with genuine international appeal.

At its centre is the spectacular Horizon Deck, an observation platform offering breathtaking 360-degree views across the Swiss Alps, glacier landscapes and the Swiss Plateau. The tower also introduces Joseph’s, a casual fine dining restaurant, alongside a Rolex Boutique, creating an elevated visitor experience that extends far beyond sightseeing.

“The TITLIS Tower is not an ordinary construction project – it is a statement,” says Patrick Zwyssig, Member of the Board of Directors of Titlis Cableways and President of the Building Commission. “Here, architecture doesn’t compete with nature – it frames it. While design sets the stage, the mountain delivers the experience.”

CHF 150 Million Investment Shaping the Future of Titlis

The TITLIS Tower forms part of the wider TITLIS project, which also includes the construction of a new mountain station designed to emerge from the rock face like a crystal growing from the mountain itself. Together, the TITLIS Tower and the future mountain station represent an investment of approximately CHF 150 million.

“With this project, we are actively shaping the future of our company, the Engelberg destination and Central Switzerland,” explains Hans Wicki, Chairman of the Board of Directors. The objective is clear: to establish Titlis as a world-class, year-round Alpine destination offering an internationally competitive experience while remaining deeply connected to its regional heritage.

Wicki confirms that the development remains fully on schedule and financially aligned with expectations, with completion of the new mountain station planned for 2029.

Building at 3,000 Metres Above Sea Level

Delivering a project of this scale at the summit of Mount Titlis presents exceptional challenges. Construction continues in parallel with daily tourism operations, often under demanding weather conditions that include snow, strong winds and extreme mountain environments.

“Building at 3,000 metres requires peak performance every single day,” says Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Cableways. Weather conditions, logistics and safety requirements create unique demands for everyone involved in the project.

Patt particularly highlights the commitment of the workforce behind the transformation. “Our teams ensure every day that construction work and guest operations function side by side allowing our guests to continue experiencing the fascination of Titlis despite the ongoing works.”

A New Premium Experience Above the Clouds

The opening of the TITLIS Tower introduces several new highlights designed to enrich the visitor journey. Alongside the panoramic Horizon Deck, Joseph’s restaurant is expected to set a new culinary benchmark on the mountain.

Under the direction of André Kneubühler, recognised as “Gault Millau Discovery of the Year 2025,” the restaurant combines contemporary Alpine cuisine with carefully selected regional ingredients and international influences, creating a refined dining experience in an extraordinary setting.

The addition of a Rolex Boutique further reinforces Titlis’ ambition to position itself within the premium tourism segment.

“Visitors should not only come to Titlis for the view, but for the quality of the entire experience,” says Norbert Patt.

Sustainability Embedded in the Vision

Sustainability remains a central pillar of the TITLIS project. Through the implementation of a highly efficient building envelope, the consistent use of waste heat and solar energy, and a comprehensive approach to energy management, the development is designed to significantly reduce environmental impact.

Upon completion of the new mountain station, annual CO₂ emissions are expected to decrease by approximately 95%, dropping from 280 tonnes per year to just 12 tonnes.

“For us, sustainability is not an add-on – it is an integral part of the entire architecture and infrastructure,” concludes Patrick Zwyssig.

As the first chapter of a broader transformation unfolds, the opening of the TITLIS Tower signals far more than the launch of a new attraction. It represents the beginning of a new era for Alpine tourism, where world-class architecture, premium hospitality and environmental responsibility converge at the summit of one of Switzerland’s most iconic mountain destinations.

Factsheet TITLIS Tower / TITLIS Project

From June 2026, the TITLIS Tower will expand the experience offering on Mount TITLIS and set a new

architectural landmark in the Swiss Alps. At 3,020 metres above sea level, the 76-metre-high tower

combines spectacular views, gastronomy, and an international brand world. The TITLIS Tower is the first

visible element of the comprehensive TITLIS project, which is being developed in collaboration with the

renowned Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.

Key Facts TITLIS Tower

Opening: Early June 2026

Construction start: 8 May 2023

Location: TITLIS, Engelberg (Switzerland)

Altitude: 3,020 m a.s.l.

Tower height: 76 metres (including antenna installations)

Horizon Deck altitude: 54 metres

Joseph’s Restaurant altitude: 47 metres

The tower was originally built in the 1980s for telecommunications purposes and has been transformed

over the past three years into an iconic tourist attraction. The two newly inserted horizontal volumes

overlap, symbolically forming a reference to the Swiss cross.

Horizon Deck

The new Horizon Deck, located at 54 metres, offers spectacular 360-degree views of the Alpine landscape

and the Swiss Plateau. On clear days, visibility extends as far as Italy, France, and Germany.

Joseph’s Restaurant

Joseph’s Restaurant offers around 120 seats and represents modern casual fine dining. A part of the

restaurant is dedicated to the Alpine Lounge, featuring a simpler menu in a relaxed atmosphere.

Under the leadership of Executive Chef André Kneubühler, “Gault & Millau Discovery of the Year 2025”,

the restaurant combines modern Alpine cuisine with regional products and international inspiration.

Generous floor-to-ceiling glazing with panoramic views makes the restaurant a truly unique experience on

Mount TITLIS. The name “Joseph’s” pays tribute to Josef (Sepp) Kuster, who, together with Willy Amrhein,

first ascended and skied Mount TITLIS in 1904 a milestone in Engelberg’s ski history. www.josephs-

Rolex Lounge

Located inside the TITLIS Tower is the world’s highest Rolex boutique, which perfectly complements the

tower’s premium offering.

Rock Passage

The underground Rock Passage connects the mountain station directly and weather-independently with the

TITLIS Tower. A reflective steel band guides guests through the raw rock tunnel into a spacious cavern at

the end of the passage. Integrated into the steel band are two large-scale LED screens.

TITLIS Peak Station

The new TITLIS Peak Station will become the second central element of the TITLIS project. The existing

mountain station will be gradually deconstructed and replaced by a new building, architecturally inspired

by a crystal emerging from the rock. The new station will host various shops and restaurants with a total of

around 600 seats.

The south-west bypass has already been completed and will become part of the new mountain station.

Throughout the entire construction phase, the operation of the existing cable car station will remain

uninterrupted. The new TITLIS Peak Station is a highly complex structural system anchored deep into stable

rock.

Upcoming construction phases:

- Dismantling of the existing station

- Upgrade/maintenance of the Rotair cable car from August to mid-December 2026

- Construction of the structural shell and building envelope by end of 2027

- Interior fit-out in 2028

- Completion of the overall project in early 2029
