DENZA Z Makes Its Swiss Debut: The 1,600-PS Electric Supercar Leading BYD’s Premium Offensive

DENZA Enters Switzerland with Four New Models

On August 26, 2026, DENZA officially entered the Swiss market with an exclusive launch event at The Dolder Grand in Zurich. The premium automotive brand, part of BYD, presented a four-model range designed to bring its technology-focused approach to Switzerland: the DENZA Z9GT, DENZA D9, DENZA Z and BAO 5.

But while the entire range represents an important step in BYD’s European premium strategy, there was one car that inevitably commanded the attention of the evening: the DENZA Z, an all-electric supercar developed to showcase the most extreme performance and technology capabilities of the brand. The Zurich presentation marked an important moment for DENZA. After its European debut earlier in 2026, the brand is now moving into individual markets with a clear ambition to compete in the premium segment through a combination of electric performance, advanced chassis technology, luxury and distinctive design. And the DENZA Z is perhaps the clearest expression of that ambition.

DENZA Z: An Electric Supercar with Up to 1,604 PS

The DENZA Z is not designed to be another conventional luxury EV. It is positioned as a high-performance electric supercar and is built around BYD’s new e³ Sports Car Platform, a dedicated architecture designed to combine extreme power with advanced vehicle dynamics.

At the top of the range, the DENZA Z develops up to an extraordinary 1,604 PS, delivered through a three-motor electric powertrain.

The figures are equally dramatic. The Racing version is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.96 seconds, putting the DENZA Z firmly into the territory occupied by some of the world’s fastest production performance cars.

Yet the headline horsepower is only part of the story.

DENZA has engineered the Z around advanced control of the vehicle’s individual motors and chassis systems, allowing the car to deliver a level of agility that goes beyond straight-line acceleration. The platform incorporates sophisticated torque distribution and vehicle-control technologies intended to make the car both exceptionally fast and dynamically engaging.

The result is a performance philosophy that reflects the direction of the DENZA brand itself: technology first, but technology integrated into a luxury product.

Coupé, Spider and Racing: Three Faces of the DENZA Z

The DENZA Z is planned in several configurations, giving the model a broader identity than a single fixed supercar specification.

The Z Coupé is the core model, combining the dramatic proportions of a high-performance two-door car with an all-electric powertrain. The Z Spider adds an open-top interpretation, while the Z Racing takes the performance concept even further.

DENZA has also developed a Special Edition connected to its Nürburgring ambitions, underlining the brand’s intention to establish the Z not simply as a technological showcase, but as a serious performance machine.

In Switzerland, the pricing reflects that positioning.

The DENZA Z Coupé starts at CHF 149,900, while the Z Spider is priced from CHF 164,900. At the top of the range, the DENZA Z Racing starts at CHF 179,900. These are substantial figures, but they also place the Z directly into a premium performance category where electric power, technology and exclusivity become as important as traditional sports-car credentials.

DENZA Z9GT: Electric Grand Touring Meets Advanced Technology

While the DENZA Z was the undisputed star of the Zurich presentation, it is not the model that will carry the brand’s entire Swiss business. That role is shared with the DENZA Z9GT, a large luxury shooting brake designed to combine grand-touring practicality with high-performance electric technology. The Z9GT is available in Switzerland as a fully electric model and with BYD’s Super Hybrid DM-i technology. The electric version starts at CHF 115,000, while the Super Hybrid version starts at CHF 101,000.

The Z9GT also demonstrates some of DENZA’s most unusual chassis technology, including systems designed to allow the vehicle to perform advanced manoeuvres such as a 360-degree Compass Turn and lateral movement commonly referred to as Crab Walk.

It is a very different proposition from the Z, but it reinforces the same message: DENZA wants technology to be a defining element of its premium identity.

DENZA D9: A Luxury Lounge on Wheels

The third major model is the DENZA D9, a seven-seat luxury MPV aimed at customers looking for executive-level comfort rather than sports-car performance. With its 2+2+3 seating configuration, the D9 is designed around the idea of a mobile luxury lounge. It brings premium materials, sophisticated passenger features and an emphasis on rear-seat comfort to a segment that remains particularly important in several Asian markets.

In Switzerland, the D9 is available in Elegance and Ultimate specifications, starting at CHF 79,000 and CHF 84,000, respectively.

The range also includes the D9 DM-i Super Hybrid, bringing plug-in hybrid technology to DENZA’s luxury MPV concept.

BAO 5 Adds an Off-Road Dimension

Completing the Swiss launch range is the BAO 5, a plug-in hybrid SUV developed around BYD’s DMO off-road technology.

With up to 544 PS, the BAO 5 combines electric assistance with a combustion engine and four-wheel-drive capability. Its claimed 0–100 km/h time is 4.8 seconds, while the model offers up to 90 km of electric driving range and a combined WLTP range of up to 835 km.

Swiss pricing starts at CHF 77,900 for the Elegance version and CHF 87,900 for the Ultimate.

The BAO 5 gives DENZA something the Z, Z9GT and D9 cannot: a serious adventure-oriented identity.

A New Premium Chapter for BYD in Switzerland

Taken together, the four models reveal the broader strategy behind DENZA’s arrival in Switzerland.

The range spans an electric supercar, a luxury grand tourer, a premium seven-seat MPV and a high-performance plug-in hybrid SUV. It is an unusually broad portfolio for a brand making its Swiss debut, but that diversity is central to DENZA’s positioning.

The company’s philosophy, expressed through the idea “Technology Drives Elegance,” is to combine advanced engineering with premium design and comfort rather than treating technology as an isolated selling point.

At the Zurich launch, that philosophy was perhaps best represented by the DENZA Z. The Z is the car designed to make people stop, look and ask questions. With up to 1,604 PS, three electric motors and a claimed 1.96-second 0–100 km/h time, it gives DENZA a dramatic technological flagship at precisely the moment the brand begins establishing itself in Switzerland.

For a market already familiar with premium German performance cars, the challenge will be convincing buyers that a new electric supercar from BYD can belong in the same conversation. The DENZA Z is clearly intended to make sure that conversation starts.
