LORO PIANA ICONS: THE ART OF TIMELESS LUXURY AND ITALIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP

True luxury is not defined by excess, but by the exceptional harmony between craftsmanship, functionality, comfort, and timeless elegance. At Loro Piana, this philosophy finds its purest expression in the Icons: a collection of enduring designs shaped by heritage, refined savoir-faire, and an uncompromising attention to detail.
Developed over decades to respond to specific activities and ways of living, the Loro Piana Icons have evolved from purpose-driven garments into enduring wardrobe classics. Inspired by sailing, equestrian pursuits, skiing, classic cars, travel, and the pleasures of countryside living, each creation reflects the Maison’s understanding of a sophisticated lifestyle.
Their defining principle remains unchanged: what is useful should also be beautiful.
Icons Born from the World of Sport
The Horsey® Jacket
Created in 1992 for the Italian Equestrian Olympic team at the Barcelona Olympic Games, the Horsey® jacket embodies the meeting of technical intelligence and understated sophistication. Every detail serves a purpose, from its notched zip flap, designed to fold neatly while riding, to its soft, rustle-free fabric and silent horn buttons. Combining freedom of movement with functional precision, the Horsey® translates equestrian expertise into an enduring expression of everyday elegance.
The Loro Piana Icer
Introduced in 1996, the Loro Piana Icer redefined the relationship between performance and luxury outerwear. Conceived as a cashmere ski jacket, it features the water-repellent and wind-resistant Storm System® treatment. Knitted cashmere at the collar, raglan sleeves, adjustable cuffs, and a waist drawstring provide warmth, comfort, and adaptability. Its refined proportions and clean silhouette make it equally suited to winter adventures and sophisticated city dressing.
The Loro Piana Bomber
Born in 2003 from a passion for sailing, the Loro Piana Bomber combines athletic elegance with remarkable versatility. Its defining material, Windmate®, brings together microfibre and cashmere in a distinctive, high-performance construction. Fully reversible, the jacket offers two complementary expressions: a practical exterior for days at sea and a luxurious cashmere finish for relaxed evenings ashore. Elasticated cuffs and a two-way zip complete its unmistakable silhouette.
The Roadster
Launched in 2004 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como, the Roadster pays tribute to the world of classic automobiles. Its distinctive collar provides wind protection while driving and can be worn open for a more relaxed appearance. Functional pockets, sleeve vents, and a double closure enhance its practicality, while its lightweight, warm, and wind-resistant construction ensures freedom of movement without compromising elegance.
Icons Inspired by an Elegant Lifestyle
The Voyager and The Traveller
Designed for life in motion, the Voyager emerged in 2006 from the idea of a Milan–New York flight. Its adaptable back, half belt, generous pockets, and straight silhouette make it an intelligent companion for business travel and leisure alike. Introduced in 2007, the Traveller field jacket offers another interpretation of functional sophistication. Its adjustable waist, multipurpose pockets, distinctive collar strap, and water-repellent Windmate® fabric make it ideal for frequent journeys. Lightweight and easy to fold, it maintains a polished appearance while accommodating the practical demands of modern travel.
The Spagna
Introduced in 1998 and inspired by a Spanish officer’s uniform, the Spagna jacket expresses elegance through simplicity. Its standing collar, buttonless cuffs, and double patch pockets create a distinctive silhouette that balances formal refinement with the comfort of a cardigan. It remains a versatile expression of Loro Piana’s understated approach to contemporary dressing.

The Maria and Francesca Coats
Inspired in the mid-1970s by Elena Loro Piana and named after Maria and Francesca Loro Piana, the sisters of founder Pietro Loro Piana, these coats reflect the Maison’s longstanding relationship with exceptional fabrics. The Maria features a generous, wrapped silhouette with square construction, celebrating the softness and fluidity of double fabric. The Francesca offers a more tailored interpretation, with raglan sleeves and a straighter, vertical line. Together, they demonstrate how a shared design philosophy can produce two distinct expressions of comfort and sophistication.
The Rovasenda and Maremma
Rooted in Italian country life, the Rovasenda and Maremma jackets translate practical heritage into contemporary elegance. Conceived in 1997, the Rovasenda features double-entry pockets, an upright collar, and detachable sleeves, allowing it to transform into a versatile vest. Launched in 2001, the Maremma draws inspiration from Tuscany’s countryside and traditions of truffle hunting and gamekeeping. Its softly structured silhouette, straight profile, and knitted inserts beneath the arms and along the collar provide comfort and freedom of movement, equally suited to outdoor pursuits and city living.
Icons of Everyday Refinement
The Polo Open, introduced in 1994 and first worn aboard the Loro Piana family boat, captures the relaxed sophistication of Italian outdoor living. Its open, wide placket lends the classic polo shirt an effortlessly elegant character. The Grande Unita scarf represents a defining moment in the Maison’s evolution. Created in the 1980s by Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana from cashmere cloth produced at the Piedmont factory, it transformed exceptional fabric into an enveloping accessory distinguished by generous proportions, warmth, and a vibrant palette. Created in 1998, the André shirt draws inspiration from 1950s Neapolitan shirting. Named after Swiss artist André Piot, it features a distinctive collar that can be worn open or with a tie. Originally crafted in denim, it was subsequently developed in linen, offering exceptional comfort during warmer weather. Available for men and women, it embodies understated elegance through the tactile beauty of natural fibres.
Icons of Italian Footwear
The White Sole collection began in 2003 with the Summer Walk, followed by the Open Walk and Summer Charms Walk. Inspired by sailing, these Italian-made shoes reinterpret the classic moccasin through soft suede, refined leather, flexible construction, and a distinctive semi-transparent rubber sole. The Sergio Walk pays tribute to Sergio Loro Piana through a classic loafer inspired by his personal collection and originally made to his specifications in the 1970s. Crafted from exceptionally soft leather, it celebrates comfort and traditional shoemaking. The Lou Tassel Walk reinterprets an archival slipper inspired by footwear from Valsesia, the region where the Maison was founded. First created in the 1990s, its original cashmere construction helped establish its distinctive character. Today, its timeless moccasin silhouette, elegant tassels, and ten hours of dedicated craftsmanship per pair express the enduring value of artisanal expertise.
A Legacy of Timeless Luxury
Across every Icon, Loro Piana unites Italian excellence, exceptional materials, meticulous construction, and purposeful design. Continuously perfected season after season, these creations preserve their essential identities while embracing new shapes and fabric interpretations. The result is a wardrobe designed not for fleeting trends, but for a life lived with discernment. At Loro Piana, true luxury lies in the details, the freedom of movement, the beauty of natural fibres, and the quiet confidence of pieces made to endure.
Loro Piana Icons represent the essence of understated luxury: a timeless dialogue between heritage, innovation, craftsmanship, and the art of living well.
