Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: The Electric Performance SUV Redefining Luxury, Power and Precision

Developed entirely in Affalterbach, the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV brings together the commanding presence of a full-size SUV, the emotional character of a sports car and a new generation of high-performance electric technology.
Born in Affalterbach: A New Chapter in Mercedes-AMG Performance
Some vehicles are defined by their proportions. Others by their performance. The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is designed to bring both worlds together, introducing a new interpretation of the high-performance luxury SUV.
For the first time in its 59-year history, Mercedes-AMG has developed a full-size SUV entirely in-house, from the ground up. Based on the AMG.EA high-performance architecture, the new model is the second vehicle to adopt this dedicated platform, following the recently unveiled AMG GT 4-Door Coupé.
The ambition is clear: to combine the space, comfort and versatility expected of a full-size SUV with the precision, responsiveness and emotional appeal of an authentic AMG sports car.
Its silhouette communicates that philosophy immediately. A low roofline, wide track, muscular shoulders and pronounced wheel arches give the vehicle a distinctly athletic presence, while a carefully engineered interior and generous ground clearance preserve the qualities that make an SUV suitable for everyday life.
As Dr Stefan Weckbach, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, explains: “SUV by shape. GT by nature.”
It is a concise expression of the concept behind this new electric performance model.
Three Axial Flux Motors and Up to 1,169 Horsepower
At the heart of the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV lies a new approach to electric performance. The top-of-the-range GT 63 SUV combines three axial flux motors with an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, delivering up to 860 kW, equivalent to 1,169 horsepower.
The GT 55 SUV develops up to 600 kW, or 816 horsepower, using the same three-motor configuration. Both models feature fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, with torque distribution adapted continuously to driving conditions.
The GT 53 SUV introduces a different configuration, with two synchronous motors delivering a combined 400 kW, or 544 horsepower. Its front motor can engage when additional traction or acceleration is required, while the rear axle incorporates a two-speed transmission designed to balance responsive acceleration with efficiency at higher speeds.
In the GT 63 SUV, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 2.5 seconds using the specified one-foot rollout measurement. The GT 55 SUV completes the same sprint in 2.8 seconds, while the GT 53 SUV achieves it in 3.8 seconds. These figures place the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV firmly within the territory of high-performance sports cars, despite its full-size SUV proportions.
Formula 1-Inspired Battery Technology and Exceptional Charging Power
Performance is not simply a question of maximum output. For an electric vehicle designed to deliver sustained power, thermal management, charging speed and consistency are equally important. The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV features an AMG High Performance Electric Battery developed around 800-volt technology and directly cooled cylindrical cells. Inspired by Formula 1 technology, its architecture is designed to maintain stable operating temperatures and support repeated high-power demands. Two battery capacities are available for the GT 63 and GT 55 SUV: 106 kWh and 128 kWh. Depending on the configuration, maximum DC charging power reaches 600 kW or 710 kW.
With the larger battery, Mercedes-AMG states that charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes approximately 12 minutes under the specified conditions. The vehicle can also add up to 450 kilometres of WLTP range in ten minutes, depending on the battery variant and charging conditions.
The GT 63 and GT 55 SUV offer a projected WLTP range of up to 700 kilometres with the 128 kWh battery. The GT 53 SUV, equipped with a 106 kWh battery, offers a stated WLTP range of up to 668 kilometres.
These figures reflect an engineering philosophy focused not only on acceleration, but also on making electric performance more practical for everyday use and long-distance travel.
AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+: Precision Without Compromise
Power alone does not define the driving experience. In the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, chassis technology plays an equally important role in translating performance into control, stability and comfort.
The newly developed AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, fitted as standard to the GT 63 SUV and available as an option on the GT 55 SUV, introduces active hydraulic pitch and roll stabilisation. Working with adjustable air springs and interconnected shock absorbers, the system is designed to reduce body movements during acceleration, braking and cornering.
The objective is to reconcile two traditionally contrasting characteristics: the comfort of a long-distance grand tourer and the precision of a performance car.
Active rear-axle steering further enhances manoeuvrability and stability. At speeds below 80 km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels to improve agility. Above this threshold, they turn in the same direction, helping the vehicle remain composed at higher speeds.
Together with the fully variable all-wheel-drive system, these technologies give the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV a driving character designed to adapt to both everyday journeys and more demanding roads.
A Sound Experience Designed to Engage the Senses
Electric performance does not have to mean an absence of emotion. Mercedes-AMG addresses this through AMGFORCE Sport+, a driving programme that reproduces the characteristic sound of an AMG V8 in the GT 63 and GT 55 SUV, and an AMG six-cylinder engine in the GT 53 SUV.
The sound profiles are based on measurements taken from reference vehicles rather than being generated entirely synthetically. More than 100 measurements using 16 microphones inform a system that adapts the sound to acceleration, driving style and simulated gear changes.
Steering-wheel paddles, a dedicated display design and integrated seat shakers contribute to the experience. Drivers can also customise sound profiles, choosing between settings such as Powerful, Balanced and Silent.
For those seeking greater control over the vehicle’s behaviour, the AMG RACE ENGINEER system provides adjustments for motor response, cornering dynamics and traction. Nine traction-control levels are available under the specified driving modes and conditions.
The result is a more personalised interpretation of electric performance, one in which technology is designed to engage the senses as well as deliver measurable results.

Sculpted Aerodynamics and a Bespoke Interior
The exterior design balances muscular proportions with carefully managed airflow. The active AEROKINETICS roof spoiler on the GT 63 and GT 55 SUV adjusts its position according to speed and driving conditions, while the AEROKINETICS Airpanel regulates airflow through the front bumper to support aerodynamic efficiency and cooling.
Inside, the cockpit adopts the driver-focused architecture associated with the AMG GT family. A 14-inch multimedia display is angled towards the driver and works visually alongside a 10.2-inch instrument cluster. A separate 14-inch display is available for the front passenger.
Despite the sporting silhouette, rear passengers benefit from generous headroom and legroom. The rear seats fold down to expand the luggage compartment, which offers up to 1,740 litres of capacity under the stated measurement configuration. Additional storage includes a 111-litre front storage compartment and a 78-litre frunk, depending on the measurement standard specified.
Personalisation remains central to the luxury proposition. The MANUFAKTUR programme offers more than 60 exclusive exterior paint finishes, alongside distinctive forged-wheel accents and interior details, including coloured seat belts in selected shades.

An Intelligent Digital Environment
The latest generation of MBUX, based on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, brings connectivity, vehicle information and personalisation into a unified digital environment.
Three AI agents ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini are integrated into the MBUX experience. The virtual assistant supports complex, multi-step dialogues, while dedicated AMG applications provide access to performance data, vehicle settings and racetrack analysis.
For track-focused drivers, AMG TRACK PACE records more than 80 vehicle-specific data points ten times per second. The system can display lap times, acceleration figures and telemetry, with selected racetracks pre-installed and the option to record personal routes.
The Predictive Performance Manager, developed from technology first used during the CONCEPT AMG GT XX record-breaking run, also supports energy management on the racetrack by adapting power delivery to the demands of individual sections.
Swiss Market: Launch Timeline and Availability
For Swiss customers, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ SUV is scheduled to go on sale on 20 October, with pricing details to be announced at that time. The first vehicles are expected to arrive at retail partners in February 2027. Sales releases for the additional powertrain variants will follow at a later date.
Production takes place at the historic Mercedes-Benz complex in Sindelfingen, Germany, where Hall 32 has been specifically adapted to accommodate the requirements of AMG.EA technology.
With three powertrain configurations, advanced electric-drive technology, sophisticated chassis systems and extensive personalisation options, the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV brings together the versatility of a full-size SUV and the performance ambitions of Affalterbach.
Its defining proposition is not simply speed, but the combination of power, precision, comfort and individual expression in an all-electric package.
Technical note: The stated performance, charging and range figures depend on the specific model, battery configuration and test conditions. WLTP figures are standardised measurements and may differ from real-world results.
