Opening on 1 August 2026, the intimate thirteen-room property is nestled between Zurich’s historic Old Town and the university quarter, reimagining one of the city’s most storied heritage buildings as a refined urban retreat where more than five centuries of history meet contemporary craftsmanship, gastronomy and design.
Located on Florhofgasse, the listed property traces its origins back to the fifteenth century. From the sixteenth century onwards, it was deeply intertwined with Zurich’s flourishing silk trade, a chapter of the city’s history that remains subtly present throughout the identity of the restored house today. Following an extensive heritage restoration undertaken in close collaboration with the relevant heritage authorities, Villa Florhof has been thoughtfully transformed into a destination that celebrates both Zurich’s cultural legacy and Lalique’s enduring commitment to artistry, craftsmanship and savoir-faire. More than a hotel, Villa Florhof has been conceived as an elegant private residence. Villa Florhof represents an important milestone in the continued evolution of Lalique Hospitality. As the collection’s first address in Zurich, the property expands Lalique’s portfolio of distinctive hospitality destinations, which includes Villa René Lalique and Château Hochberg in Alsace, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey in Bordeaux, The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant and The Aberturret Estate House in Scotland. Unlike a grand palace hotel, Villa Florhof offers the intimacy of a private house. The property comprises thirteen individually designed rooms and suites, each conceived as a unique space with its own identity and story, drawing inspiration from the artistic universe of René Lalique.
At the heart of the accommodation offering is the Suite René Lalique, the hotel’s principal suite. It epitomises the dialogue that runs throughout Villa Florhof between heritage architecture and contemporary refinement. The interiors have been created by Green & Mingarelli Design, whose approach respects the historic character of the listed building while introducing a sophisticated and deeply residential atmosphere. Throughout the house, the original architectural identity has been carefully preserved and restored, while contemporary design elements bring a new sense of comfort and elegance to the spaces.
Bespoke furnishings by Lalique Maison sit alongside carefully restored architectural features, creating interiors that feel timeless rather than theatrical. The result is not the experience of a conventional luxury hotel, but that of entering a private residence shaped by history, craftsmanship and an individual sense of place.
Lalique Crystal as Architecture
At Villa Florhof, crystal is not simply used as decoration. It becomes part of the architecture itself.
Created exclusively for the Zurich project, the Lalique Interior Design Studio has designed more than a dozen bespoke crystal and architectural glass installations that create a visual narrative throughout the entire hotel. Inspired by René Lalique’s iconic creations, these elements connect the Maison’s artistic heritage with the history of the building and the city around it.
Butterfly and mulberry leaf motifs recur throughout Villa Florhof, subtly alluding to Zurich’s historic silk production. These references appear in illuminated crystal panels, sculptural lighting and architectural screens, while handcrafted details accompany guests from their arrival through every space of the property. Among the most striking installations is the spectacular staircase, where illuminated crystal butterflies create a distinctive architectural statement. Another highlight is the dramatic ceiling of the future Signature Restaurant, featuring more than one hundred illuminated Papillon crystal butterflies. Villa Florhof also presents a curated selection of Damien Hirst’s butterfly artworks, created in collaboration with Lalique, further extending the dialogue between contemporary art, crystal craftsmanship and the Maison’s historic creative universe.
A New Culinary Destination for Zurich
From opening day, Villa Florhof welcomes not only hotel guests but also local residents to its Bar & Brasserie. Conceived as an all-day dining destination, it opens onto a tranquil garden terrace and is set to become one of Zurich’s desirable settings for lunch, aperitifs and relaxed dining. Under the direction of Head Chef John Schiffmann, the cuisine celebrates exceptional ingredients through a philosophy that remains approachable while retaining a refined sense of gastronomy. The culinary experience at Villa Florhof will reach a new level later in autumn 2026 with the opening of the Signature Restaurant. Located within the villa’s elegant first-floor salons, the future restaurant will overlook the surrounding historic neighbourhood, adding another dimension to the property’s gastronomic identity.
Completing the experience is a beautifully restored historic vaulted wine cellar, designed for private tastings and events. The property also includes the exclusive Salon Davidoff, an intimate cigar lounge dedicated to collectors and connoisseurs.
