BYD Launches the Futuristic High-Tech DOLPHIN SURF City Car in Switzerland

Zurich, May 21, 2025 BYD, the global leader in electrified vehicle manufacturing, is proud to unveil the highly anticipated BYD DOLPHIN SURF to customers in Switzerland. Crowned “World Urban Car of the Year,” this newest entry-level model from BYD combines a sporty look and fresh personality with a spacious, practical interior and a suite of intelligent high-tech features. The BYD DOLPHIN SURF is designed to win over drivers in the compact electric vehicle segment.
This is the eighth fully electric model BYD has introduced to the European market in under three years. With dimensions of 3,990 mm in length, 1,720 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, the DOLPHIN SURF is tailor-made for navigating narrow city streets and tight parking spots. Thanks to the smart design of the e-Platform 3.0, the vehicle offers a remarkably spacious cabin and luggage space rivaling even vehicles in higher segments.

BOLD DESIGN WITH FUNCTIONALITY IN MIND
The DOLPHIN SURF stands out with a distinctive design that blends functionality with sporty flair. Elegantly curved lines define its profile, enhancing cabin space, while the rising body line adds dynamism, further emphasized by standard 15- or 16-inch wheels. The C-pillar features a unique dot-matrix element inspired by ice crystals, creating a floating roof effect.
At the front, sleek, sharply contoured headlights with six angled light strips are paired with integrated daytime running lights, enhancing the car’s assertive look. Horizontal lines on the bumper give the DOLPHIN SURF a wider, more confident stance. At the rear, an aerodynamic spoiler extends the roofline, boosting efficiency.
BYD’S ADVANCED BATTERY TECHNOLOGY
Under the hood is BYD’s pioneering e-Platform 3.0, designed exclusively for electric vehicles and home to one of BYD’s signature innovations: the Blade Battery, utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry. This battery is free from toxic heavy metals such as cobalt, zinc, or manganese, offering superior safety, longevity, and sustainability.
Two battery options are available: 30 kWh (Active version) and 43.2 kWh (Boost and Comfort versions). The larger battery enables a WLTP combined range of up to 322 km, and up to 507 km in urban settings, making it ideal for city drivers.
BYD is unique in developing and producing all core electric drivetrain components in-house, including the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain, integrating the drive motor, transmission, VCU, DC converter, battery management system, motor controller, power distribution unit, and onboard charger into a single module maximizing space and efficiency.
Three front-motor variants are available:
Active: 30 kWh battery, 65 kW motor, 0–100 km/h in 11.1 sec
Boost: 43.2 kWh battery, same motor, 0–100 km/h in 12.1 sec
Comfort: 43.2 kWh battery, 115 kW motor (220 Nm), 0–100 km/h in just 9.1 sec
Charging power is up to 65 kW DC (Active) or 85 kW DC (Boost/Comfort), allowing a 10%–80% charge in just 30 minutes. All versions also include 11 kW three-phase AC charging (0%–100% in 3.5 to 5 hours), making everyday use and longer journeys hassle-free.
A DAILY DRIVING DELIGHT WITH ADVANCED FEATURES
Despite its compact footprint, the DOLPHIN SURF offers a 2,500 mm wheelbase, comfortably seating four adults. Its minimalist dashboard includes a standard 10.1-inch rotating infotainment screen, designed to stay within the driver’s field of vision. Brushed metallic accents enhance the cabin’s refined aesthetic.
Sporty front seats strike a balance between comfort and support and may include electric adjustment and heating depending on trim. Rear seats provide generous head and legroom, making the vehicle family-friendly. All versions come with three ISOFIX anchors two in the rear, one in the front passenger seat.
Boot capacity starts at 308 liters, expanding to 1,037 liters with rear seats folded. Twenty smart storage compartments throughout the cabin including cup holders and a hidden underfloor trunk space add further practicality.
